About KoshaSHRI Project -
“Digital Preservation and Online Portal for Encyclopaedic Sanskrit Dictionary”KoshSHRI software is developed under the project titled “Digital Preservation and Online Portal for Encyclopaedic Sanskrit Dictionary” funded by Department of Science & Technology (DST) under Science and Heritage Research Initiative (SHRI).
Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) Pune has collaborated with The Deccan College Post-graduate and Research Institute, Pune for the domain knowledge and the 35 volumes of Encyclopaedic Sanskrit Dictionary published since 1976.
With an objective to provide technological solutions to build the Sanskrit dictionary database and an online portal, the following components / tools are developed: -

- 3. युनिकोड लिप्यंतर - Sanskrit Non-UNICODE to UNICODE Converter
- 4. कोषाक्षरबोध प्रणाली – Trilingual Optical Character Recognition (OCR) for Sanskrit, Roman, English
- 5. कोषनिष्कर्षण प्रणाली - Automatic Extraction of Lexicographic Elements (Conversion of Published Volumes into Structured Database)
- 6. कोषसंपादन प्रणाली - Sanskrit Dictionary Editor (SDE) Software
- 7. कोषलेखन प्रणाली - Sanskrit Dictionary Article Authoring Tool (SD-AAT) & Crowdsourcing System
- 8. कोषश्री Koshashri: Online Sanskrit Dictionary Search Portal
About Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC)
Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) is the premier R&D organization of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) for carrying out R&D in IT, Electronics and associated areas. The work of Human-Centred Design and Computing (HCDC) Group at C-DAC has brought recognition to C-DAC in the area of digital preservation and heritage computing from the highest-level institutions such as Ministry of Culture at the national level and UNESCO at international level. HCDC Group at C-DAC is the designated Centre of Excellence for Digital Preservation, by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India.
About Deccan College Post-Graduate and Research Institute (Deemed University) Pune
Brief History about the Institute:
- Third Oldest Educational Institute in India.
- Established on the auspicious day of Vijayā Daśamī, i.e. 6th Oct. 1821 as Hindu College out of the Dakṣiṇā Fund initiated by Maratha Sardar Khanderao Dabhade
- Continued by the Peshwas for propagating Sanskrit studies.
- With addition of subjects other than Sanskrit renamed as Poona College in 1851 and later as Deccan College in October 1864.
- It is working as Deccan College Postgraduate and Research Institute since 1939 devoted to research in the field of Archaeology, Linguistics and Sanskrit.
An Encyclopaedic Dictionary of Sanskrit on Historical Principles was conceived and planned by Professor S. M. Katre, former Professor of Indo-European Philology and Director of the Institute in 1948. In all thirty-five volumes have been published till date.
